Falls in sales of detached homes in Australia's two most populous states is being blamed on the world economic downturn.

Sales of detached homes has slumped, though the sales in multi unit developments has risen by 10 times that slump.

Leading indicators of new home construction are weak and unfortunately the update for new home sales is no exception.

The housing market has weakened across much of the country last year, with the economic slowdown, weather disasters and last yaers gloomy predictions for the world economy.

The Victorian Governments preference for denser housing alternatives, especially for inner suburban areas appears to be on the right track.

If the last two years are taken into account, the slump may be no more that a correction from previous years.

The underlining problem is still that there are too few housing units for the population size.

Until this is corrected the market will be far to fragile to predict accurately.

Welcome To Frankston

Frankston is the city by the bay, the dolphin city, and the gateway to the Mornington Peninsula. Voted the top sustainable city in 2008, it also boasts a rich and diverse culture, as well as a flourishing performing arts centre and nature reserves everywhere you look; with the redevelopment of the Bayside shopping precinct and a new bulky good centre on Cranbourne road, Frankston is alive and kicking as one of the best places to live in the greater Melbourne area.

Living in Frankston is an opportunity to be a part of a vibrant and helpful community, far enough from Melbourne city at about 45 minutes down the Nepean highway to escape the chaos and noise of the big smoke, but still on the metro train line and with a large CBD of it's own. Further down the highway is the world famous Mornington Peninsula, covered in award winning wineries and historic towns. If you want to get close to the history of Australia without living out in the sticks, Frankston is the ideal place to settle.
